Appointment information (including making or changing an appointment)

Different types of appointment

There are different appointments depending on your health need.

When you contact us we will make sure that you get the right help at the right time from the right healthcare professional.

Telephone or in-person appointments

If you have a problem where you do not need a doctor or other healthcare professional to examine you, the receptionist can book you a telephone consultation rather than you having to come into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment. We can be more flexible with telephone appointments, and this often means we can arrange for a doctor or nurse or another healthcare professional to help you sooner.

Community pharmacy consultations

If you contact the practice with a minor health condition, we may suggest that you have a consultation with a pharmacist instead of the GP practice. You can choose a pharmacy convenient to you and we will arrange the consultation for you.

Enhanced access appointments

We work with other local GP practices to provide you with help outside of practice opening hours. We are able to offer GP and nurse appointments every weekday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm, Saturdays from 8am to 4pm and Sundays from 8am to 12noon at Sollershot Surgery in Letchworth.

To arrange one of these evening, weekend or bank holiday appointments or for more information please speak to our practice reception team.

Home visits

If you have an illness or disability that means you cannot leave your house to come to the surgery, we can arrange for a doctor or nurse to visit you at home.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. A health visitor will also visit you at home if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

All other patients should come to the surgery for their consultations. If your child is poorly, you can still safely bring them to the surgery. We can arrange an isolated waiting area if needed.

Doctors do not routinely visit all patients who have been discharged from hospital unless requested.

Please contact us before 11am to request a home visit so that we can plan our visiting rounds.
